Mosques in Les Mureaux

Les Mureaux is a Yvelines commune of around thirty-two thousand inhabitants, on the left bank of the Seine, about forty kilometres west of Paris. Neighbouring Meulan-en-Yvelines and Aubergenville, it is a historic industrial hub of the Seine valley, particularly in aerospace, with ArianeGroup sites on its territory.

Access from Paris

Les Mureaux station, on Transilien line J from Saint-Lazare, connects the town to Paris in about forty minutes. RER line E, extended westward as part of the EOLE project, now serves Les Mureaux and provides a direct alternative to eastern Paris. By car, the A13 and N13 link the town to Paris in about fifty minutes outside rush hour. An urban bus network serves the different districts.

The local context

Les Mureaux is organised around an old centre and vast social housing districts to the north and west, undergoing extensive renovation since the 2000s. The town has long been identified by its aerospace industry, and today acts as the central town of a wider urban area. The local Muslim community is diverse, with particularly long-established North African, West African and Turkish roots.

Ramadan and community life

During Ramadan, the Essalam Mosque and the Tarik Ibn Ziyad Mosque hold iftar and Tarawih prayers with large crowds. Halal shops, numerous in the northern districts and in the town centre, stay open late in the evening for iftar. The Les Mureaux market is a reference supply point throughout the month.
