The Tarik Ibn Ziyad Mosque is a Muslim place of worship located in the north of Les Mureaux, in the social housing districts along the Seine. It is one of the two main landmarks for the Muslim community of the town and the Seine valley of the western Paris region.
A mosque of northern Les Mureaux
The Tarik Ibn Ziyad Mosque welcomes worshippers for the five daily prayers and Friday prayer. It takes on particular importance during the month of Ramadan, with the nightly Tarawih prayers and iftar gatherings, as well as during the celebrations of Eid al-Fitr and Eid al-Adha.
Les Mureaux and its Muslim community
Les Mureaux is a Yvelines commune of around thirty-two thousand inhabitants, on the left bank of the Seine about forty kilometres west of Paris. The local Muslim community is large and diverse, with particularly long-established North African, West African and Turkish roots. The Essalam Mosque, on rue Gabriel Vilain, complements the town's religious offer.
Access and transport
Les Mureaux station, on Transilien line J from Saint-Lazare and now on the extended RER E, connects the town to Paris in about forty minutes. By car, the A13 and N13 serve the town. A dense urban bus network reaches the northern districts from the station.
Advice for visitors
As in any place of worship, appropriate dress is expected, and shoes must be removed before entering the prayer hall. Friday prayer and major religious holidays attract large crowds; arriving early is recommended.
