Créteil is the prefecture of Val-de-Marne, a commune of around ninety-three thousand inhabitants immediately south-east of Paris. Neighbouring Maisons-Alfort, Alfortville and Saint-Maur-des-Fossés, it stretches around the Créteil lake and concentrates the department's main administrative, hospital and university facilities.

Where the mosques are

The Sahaba Mosque, in the south of the town, is the main Muslim place of worship in Créteil. It holds the five daily prayers and Friday prayer. Several other associative rooms exist in Créteil and in the neighbouring communes, some of them shown on the map without a detailed entry in the directory.

Access from Paris

Metro line 8 serves the town with the Créteil-L'Échat, Créteil-Université, Créteil-Préfecture and Pointe du Lac stations, connecting the town centre to Bastille in about thirty minutes. RER D is accessible from nearby stations in Maisons-Alfort. The future metro line 15 South of the Grand Paris Express, with the Créteil-L'Échat station, will transform the town's accessibility in the coming years. A dense bus network completes coverage.

The local context

Créteil is organised around several poles: the administrative centre around the prefecture and the town hall, the Palais and lake district, Mont-Mesly, Croix des Mèches and the Village de Créteil, the historic core. The commune hosts the Henri-Mondor teaching hospital, the Paris-Est-Créteil university, and vast green spaces around the lake. The local Muslim community is large and diverse, with North African, West African and Turkish roots.

Ramadan and community life

During Ramadan, the Sahaba Mosque holds iftar and Tarawih prayers with large crowds. Halal shops, present in several districts and particularly around Mont-Mesly, stay open late in the evening for iftar. The Créteil-Village market and the Créteil-Soleil shopping centre are reference supply points throughout the month.

A prefecture of Val-de-Marne

Créteil is the administrative centre of Val-de-Marne, alongside Maisons-Alfort, Saint-Maur and Alfortville. Neighbouring pages cover Paris and the main towns of the metropolitan area. The Paris page centralises the regional map and helps find a mosque from any starting point in the region.
