Levallois-Perret is a town in Hauts-de-Seine, just west of the 17th arrondissement of Paris, framed by the Seine to the north and Clichy to the east. It is one of the densest towns in France. The Muslim community is present, quieter than in Saint-Ouen or Aubervilliers but real, shaped by residents of Maghrebi, Turkish and South Asian origin.

Where the mosques are

A single entry sits in the directory for Levallois: Al Nahl Mosque (Mosquée des Abeilles), on Rue Jules Verne, in the north of the town near Planchette park. It is a neighbourhood prayer room, without a monumental façade, embedded in the dense residential fabric.

Access from Paris

Métro line 3 serves Levallois through Louise Michel and Anatole France. Transilien line L stops at Clichy-Levallois station, three minutes from Saint-Lazare, and at Pont-Cardinet a little further south. Tramway T3b and several bus routes (RATP 174, 274) serve the town from Porte de Champerret and Porte d'Asnières. For worshippers coming from the northern suburbs, RER C at Asnières-sur-Seine is one bridge away.

Local context

Levallois went through a massive office-based reconversion in the 1990s and 2000s, with the arrival of the headquarters of several large industrial and technology firms. The town keeps, however, a lived-in centre, with a busy covered market and a dense shopping street along Rue du Président Wilson. The neighbourhood around Planchette and Rue Jules Verne keeps a more working-class identity, with several community shops.

Ramadan and neighbourhood life

During Ramadan, Al Nahl Mosque holds Tarawih prayers every evening after Isha. Halal shops in the neighbourhood stay open late for iftar shopping. Population density and narrow streets make the Ramadan atmosphere in Levallois more subdued than in Saint-Ouen or Aubervilliers, but just as alive at neighbourhood level.

The centre of the metropolitan area

Levallois-Perret belongs to the Paris metropolitan area. From métro line 3 and line L stations, worshippers reach in ten to fifteen minutes the mosques of the 17th and 10th ('Ali Ibn Al Khattab Mosque), and in twenty minutes those of north-eastern Paris. The directory covers the whole inner belt.
