Al Nahl Mosque

Al Nahl Mosque (Mosquée des Abeilles) stands at 14 Rue Jules Verne, in the north of Levallois-Perret, a few streets from Planchette park. It is a neighbourhood prayer room, without a monumental façade, embedded in the town's dense residential fabric. The name honours Sura An-Nahl (The Bees), the sixteenth chapter of the Quran.

Getting there

Louise Michel station (line 3) is under ten minutes on foot. Anatole France (line 3) is a little further south. Clichy-Levallois station (Transilien line L) is fifteen minutes on foot or five by bus, three minutes by train from Saint-Lazare. Tramway T3b stops at Porte de Champerret, twenty minutes on foot or ten by bus. RATP buses 174, 274 and 340 serve the area.

The neighbourhood

Northern Levallois keeps a more working-class feel than the office-heavy town centre. Streets around Jules Verne and Anatole France line up small old buildings, local shops and primary schools. Planchette park, five minutes away, offers a green break in a very dense town. Levallois covered market, on Place du Marché, is fifteen minutes on foot and concentrates the halal shops of the town centre.

Practical advice for a visit

The place serves its worshippers first. A first visit is easier outside Friday noon and outside Ramadan Tarawih night prayers. Shoes come off before entering, women cover their hair, and clothes should cover shoulders and legs. Quiet is expected as soon as you step inside.

The closest other mosques are on the Paris side: 'Ali Ibn Al Khattab Mosque in the 10th is reached in fifteen minutes on line 3, and Al Hashimi Grand Mosque in Saint-Ouen is ten minutes away by car via the ring boulevards. Ibn Badis Institute in Nanterre, to the west, is reached in around twenty minutes on line L to Nanterre-Université then on foot.
