The Strasbourg Mosque stands at 6 rue Averroès, in the Heyritz district, between the historic centre and Neudorf. Inaugurated in 2012 after a long construction led notably by the Al Ghazali Institute, it is the largest Muslim place of worship in the city and one of the most important in Grand Est. Its copper dome and circular hall, with a capacity of several thousand worshippers, host the five daily prayers, Friday prayer and the major dates of the Muslim calendar.
Getting there
Étoile Bourse tram stop, on lines A and D, is five minutes on foot via the Danube bridge. Étoile Polygone stop, served by lines C, E and F, is under ten minutes away. CTS buses L1 and 14 drop off closest via Kibitzenau. Strasbourg central station is fifteen minutes by tram. By car, the A35 Étoile exit leads directly to the district, with a car park serving the site.
The neighbourhood
Rue Averroès borders the Austerlitz basin, between Heyritz and Neudorf. The area has been deeply reshaped by the two peninsulas urban projects, with Place de l'Étoile, the new Heyritz district and the civil hospital. Halal shops and oriental grocers are nearby, especially along Rue de la 1ère Armée and in neighbouring Neudorf. Parc du Heyritz and the banks of the Ill offer pleasant pedestrian paths.
Practical advice for a visit
The large capacity makes reception very smooth for a first visit. Friday noon and Ramadan Tarawih nights draw significant crowds, arriving early or choosing another slot is safer. Shoes come off at the entrance, women cover their hair, clothes should cover shoulders and legs. The women's area is separate. Quiet is expected from the door. The Al Ghazali Institute, hosted on site, offers courses and training.

To the west, the mosques of Hautepierre, Al Fateh and Al Imane in Cronenbourg, An-Nour and Salam in Koenigshoffen serve the outer districts. Robertsau Mosque covers the north of the city.
