The neighbourhood
Meinau is a large residential district in southern Strasbourg, known for its football stadium, its weekly market on Place de Haldenbourg and its social diversity. Rue Saglio lies in the older part, a few minutes from Parc du Wacken and Parc Schulmeister. Halal shops, butchers and Turkish grocers cluster along Rue de Ribeauvillé and Avenue de Colmar. The neighbourhood association network is dense.
Practical advice for a visit
The hall is mid-sized, suited to neighbourhood life. Friday noon attendance is high, a first visit is easier on another day. Shoes come off at the entrance, women cover their hair, clothes should cover shoulders and legs. A separate area is provided for women. The pace of classes and activities follows the school year.
