Selimiye Mosque

Selimiye Mosque is at 3 rue d'Altkirch, in the Neudorf district of Strasbourg, run by the community of Turkish origin. It holds the five daily prayers and Friday prayer, along with educational activities around the Quran school and Arabic and Turkish classes.

Getting there

Krimmeri Stade de la Meinau tram stop, on lines A and E, is about ten minutes on foot. Kibitzenau stop, on line C, is also nearby. CTS buses 24 and 40 serve Rue d'Altkirch and southern Neudorf. From the central station, line A reaches Krimmeri in twenty minutes. By car, the A35 Baggersee exit and Avenue de Colmar lead to the district.

The neighbourhood

Rue d'Altkirch sits at the hinge between southern Neudorf and Meinau, in a fabric mixing small old buildings, workshops and shops. The Turkish association network is long-established there. Halal butchers, oriental grocers and restaurants are numerous along Route de Colmar, Avenue de Colmar and Rue de Ribeauvillé. The Meinau stadium, Parc Schulmeister and the Haldenbourg market are a few minutes away.

Practical advice for a visit

The hall is suited to neighbourhood life. Friday noon attendance fills the venue, a first visit runs more smoothly on another day. Shoes come off at the entrance, women cover their hair, clothes should cover shoulders and legs. A separate area is provided for women. Educational activities follow the school calendar.

Neuhof Mosque on Rue de Sarlat covers the neighbouring district to the south. The Strasbourg Mosque on Rue Averroès is reachable by tram. To the west, the mosques of Cronenbourg, Hautepierre and Koenigshoffen serve the other side.
