Rueil-Malmaison is a Hauts-de-Seine town west of Paris, on the Yvelines boundary. Around eighty thousand people live on an extensive territory reaching from the Seine banks to the north to Malmaison and La Jonchère forests to the south. The town combines a historic centre, dense suburban districts and major office hubs (Rueil 2000, Rueil-sur-Seine).

The main Muslim place of worship is the Mosque of Rueil-Malmaison, on Rue des Mazurières, in Le Plateau district. The building offers limited wheelchair access. The hall holds the five daily prayers and Friday prayer.

Access from Paris

Rueil-Malmaison station (RER A) is fifteen minutes from Charles de Gaulle-Étoile and twenty minutes from Châtelet-Les Halles. Le Val d'Or station (Transilien L), in the north of the town, offers direct access to Saint-Lazare in twenty minutes. Tramway T2, at La Défense, is fifteen minutes away by bus. RATP buses 141, 144, 158, 244, 258, 467 and 559 handle local links. From Paris, A86 then N13 or A14 give car access depending on direction.

The local context

Rueil is shaped by La Malmaison, Empress Joséphine's residence turned museum, and by Napoleon's historical presence in the town. The town centre, around Saint-Pierre-Saint-Paul church, keeps a fabric of shops and narrow streets. Rueil 2000 and Rueil-sur-Seine, developed from the 1990s, host head offices of major French groups. The southern part remains largely forested.

Ramadan and community life

During Ramadan, the Mosque of Rueil holds iftar and Tarawih night prayers. Halal shops cluster around Avenue Paul Doumer and Le Plateau district. For a wider choice, Nanterre and Suresnes shops are ten to fifteen minutes away.
