Rosny-sous-Bois is a Seine-Saint-Denis town east of Paris, on the Val-de-Marne boundary. Around forty-five thousand people live there, between Fort de Rosny to the south and the slopes rising towards Villemomble to the north. The town is known for its Rosny 2 shopping centre, one of the largest in Île-de-France, and for the national police school on the fort site.

Where the mosques are

Two Muslim places of worship are listed in Rosny. The Mosque of Rosny, on Rue Conrad Adenauer, sits in La Boissière district. The Mosque of Rosny-sous-Bois, on Rue Philibert Hoffmann, is run by the AMR association and covers the town centre and the north. Both halls hold the five daily prayers and Friday prayer.

Access from Paris

Rosny-sous-Bois station (RER E, line P) is fifteen minutes from Haussmann Saint-Lazare. Rosny-Bois-Perrier station, on the same line, serves the north of the town and the shopping centre. Tramway T1 stops at the town boundaries in Bondy and Noisy-le-Sec. RATP buses 118, 121, 143 and 545 handle local links. From Paris, A3 then N186 give quick car access.

The local context

Rosny keeps a dense suburban fabric in the central and western parts, alongside refurbished schemes in La Boissière and Nanteuil-Marnaudes. Fort de Rosny, built in the nineteenth century and now part of the national police school, closes the south of the town. Rosny 2 shopping centre, opened in 1973, shapes shopping habits across much of the eastern inner suburbs.

Ramadan and community life

During Ramadan, both mosques hold iftar and Tarawih night prayers. Halal shops cluster around Avenue du Général Gallieni and Place Carnot. The town-centre market, on Place du Général Leclerc, opens several mornings a week. For a wider choice, shops in Montreuil and Bondy are ten minutes away.
