Nour el Mohamadi Mosque

Nour el Mohamadi Mosque is located at 34 rue des Menuts, in the historic Saint-Michel district of Bordeaux. The hall welcomes local worshippers for the five daily prayers and Friday prayer.

Getting there

TBM tram line C serves the district with the Sainte-Croix stop, five minutes on foot from the mosque. The Musée d'Aquitaine stop, on line B, offers an alternative from the city centre. Bus lines 5 and 45 complete the grid towards Saint-Jean station and the right bank. By car, access from the quays is possible, but on-street parking in the narrow streets of the district is very limited, better aim for a public car park on rue Bergeron or at Salinières.

The neighbourhood

Saint-Michel, around the Gothic belltower and the covered market, is one of Bordeaux's oldest working-class districts. The narrow streets keep their dense commercial fabric, with halal butchers, Middle-Eastern grocers, Senegalese and North African restaurants, and an open-air market on Saturday and Sunday mornings. The area, long marked by a population of North African and West African immigrants, is gradually being renewed without losing its character.

Practical advice for a visit

The hall is modest in size and fills up quickly at Friday noon. A first visit runs more smoothly on another day, at weekday prayers. Shoes come off at the entrance, women cover their hair, clothes should cover shoulders and legs. An area is provided for women. Quiet is expected from the door.

Other halls are nearby in Bordeaux: Bordeaux Mosque, a few streets away, also in the Saint-Michel district, and Grand Parc Mosque to the north of the city. Talence Mosque, south of the metropolitan area, is reachable by tram in about twenty minutes.
