Getting there
TBM tram line C serves Grand Parc with the Grand Parc stop, a few minutes on foot from the mosque. Bus lines 15, 27 and 32 serve the district from place des Quinconces, Saint-Jean station and the right bank. By car, access from the ring boulevards is via rue Emile Counord, with on-street parking available in the surrounding residential streets, more abundant than in the city centre.
The neighbourhood
Grand Parc was built in the 1960s as a large residential estate north of the Bordeaux centre. The district, extensively rehabilitated in the 2010s, combines renovated social housing blocks, recent home-ownership schemes and public amenities including the Grand Parc swimming pool and place de l'Europe. Halal butchers and Middle-Eastern grocers are present around place de l'Europe and rue Charlevoix de Villers. Rivière park, a few minutes away, offers a green space.
Practical advice for a visit
The hall serves a wide community and fills up quickly at Friday noon. A first visit runs more smoothly on another day. Shoes come off at the entrance, women cover their hair, clothes should cover shoulders and legs. An area is provided for women. Quiet is expected from the door.
Other mosques in Bordeaux and around
Other halls are nearby in Bordeaux: Bordeaux Mosque and Nour el Mohamadi Mosque, both in the Saint-Michel district south of the city centre. Talence Mosque and Talence Thouars Mosque, south of the metropolitan area, are reachable by tram in about thirty minutes.
