Bordeaux Mosque

Bordeaux Mosque is located in the Saint-Michel district, a few streets from the covered market and the Gothic belltower. It welcomes local worshippers for the five daily prayers and Friday prayer.

Getting there

TBM tram line C serves Saint-Michel with the Sainte-Croix and Saint-Michel stops, a few minutes on foot from the mosque. Line B, at the Musée d'Aquitaine stop, offers an alternative from the centre. Bus lines 5, 45 and 91 complete the grid towards Saint-Jean station and the right bank. By car, access from the quays is direct, but on-street parking in the narrow streets of the district is very limited, better aim for a public car park on rue Bergeron or at Salinières.

The neighbourhood

Saint-Michel is one of Bordeaux's historic working-class districts. The streets around place Saint-Michel gather halal butchers, Middle-Eastern grocers and Senegalese, North African and Turkish restaurants. The open-air market on Saturday and Sunday mornings around the belltower draws visitors from across the metropolitan area. The district, long marked by working-class immigration, has been partially renewed over the past twenty years without losing its identity.

Practical advice for a visit

The hall is attended by a large community, particularly at Friday noon when attendance quickly fills the venue. A first visit runs more smoothly on another day. Shoes come off at the entrance, women cover their hair, clothes should cover shoulders and legs. An area is provided for women. Quiet is expected from the door.
