The Turkish Mosque is located in the Bellefontaine district of Toulouse, west of the Garonne river. Run by the local Turkish community, it welcomes worshippers for the five daily prayers and Friday prayer.
Getting there
Tisséo metro line A serves the district with the Bellefontaine stop, a few minutes on foot from the mosque. The Reynerie stop, on the same line, is a second option. Tisséo bus lines 14, 47 and the Linéo L2 express complete the grid towards Basso Cambo, Colomiers and the city centre. By car, the western ring road Le Mirail exit is nearby, with on-street parking available in the residential streets.
The neighbourhood
Bellefontaine, together with neighbouring Reynerie, forms one of the emblematic ensembles of the Grand Mirail, a 1960s-70s deck urbanism scheme. The area combines social housing largely rehabilitated in recent years, municipal amenities and recent home-ownership developments. Halal butchers and Middle-Eastern grocers are well represented along place du Ravelin and around the Bellefontaine shopping centre. The Reynerie lake, a few minutes away, completes the local setting.
Practical advice for a visit
The venue is attended by a Turkish-speaking community, but visitors are welcomed naturally in French and Arabic. The hall is medium-sized, Friday noon attendance quickly fills the space. Shoes come off at the entrance, women cover their hair, clothes should cover shoulders and legs. An area is provided for women. Quiet is expected from the door.
