The Grand Mosque of Toulouse is located in the Empalot district, south of the historic centre. It is the city's largest Muslim place of worship, with substantial capacity for the five daily prayers and Friday prayer.
Getting there
Tisséo metro line B serves Empalot with the station of the same name, a few minutes on foot from the mosque. Tram line T1 passes nearby via the Croix de Pierre stop. Tisséo bus lines 34, 44 and the Linéo L4 express complete the grid towards Rangueil, Saint-Michel and the city centre. By car, the eastern ring road Empalot exit is nearby, with on-street parking available in the surrounding residential streets.
The neighbourhood
Empalot sits between the Garonne river and the Canal du Midi, south of the Toulouse historic centre. The area combines largely rehabilitated 1960s social housing, recent home-ownership schemes and municipal amenities. Halal butchers and Middle-Eastern grocers are well represented along avenue Jean Moulin and around the local shopping square. Île du Ramier park and the banks of the Garonne, a few minutes away, offer walking spots.
Practical advice for a visit
The hall has substantial capacity and welcomes a large community, especially during the main prayers. Friday noon quickly fills the venue, a first visit runs more smoothly on another day. Shoes come off at the entrance, women cover their hair, clothes should cover shoulders and legs. An area is provided for women. Quiet is expected from the door.
