Talence Thouars Mosque

Talence Thouars Mosque is located in the Thouars district, south of the commune, supported by a recent building project led by the local Muslim association. It serves southern Talence and the residential districts on the boundary with Gradignan and Villenave-d'Ornon for the five daily prayers and Friday prayer.

Getting there

TBM bus line 8 serves Thouars with several stops a few minutes on foot from the mosque. Tram line B, at the Forum or Doyen Brus stops, offers an alternative from Bordeaux and the centre of Talence, complemented by bus line 8 for the last leg. By car, access from the ring road exit 16 is via avenue de Thouars, with plenty of on-street parking available in the surrounding residential streets.

The neighbourhood

Thouars is a large residential district in the south of Talence, straddling the boundary with Villenave-d'Ornon and Gradignan. The area combines largely rehabilitated 1960s social housing, recent home-ownership schemes and older single-family homes. Place de Thouars, around the town-hall annex, gathers local shops and municipal amenities. Halal butchers and Middle-Eastern grocers are well represented in the district.

Practical advice for a visit

The hall is attended by a local community attached to the project. Friday noon quickly fills the venue, a first visit runs more smoothly on another day. Shoes come off at the entrance, women cover their hair, clothes should cover shoulders and legs. An area is provided for women. Quiet is expected from the door.
