Getting there
TAO tram line A serves the Argonne district with the Coligny and Nécotin stops, a few minutes on foot from the mosque. The trip to central Orléans takes about ten minutes. TAO bus lines complete the grid towards neighbouring Fleury-les-Aubrais and Saint-Jean-de-Braye. By car, access is via the RD97 or Avenue de la Marne. On-street parking is available in the surrounding streets of the district.
The neighbourhood
Argonne is one of the main high-rise housing districts of Orléans, built in the 1960s and thoroughly renovated over the last twenty years. The Marie-Stuart shopping centre, Place de l'Argonne and the weekly market shape daily life. Halal butchers, Middle-Eastern grocers and restaurants are well represented around the shopping centre and along Avenue de la Marne. Parc Léon Chenault and the banks of the canal d'Orléans, a few minutes away, offer walking spots.
Practical advice for a visit
The hall hosts an active community, especially on Friday noon when attendance is heavy. A first visit runs more smoothly outside the main prayers. Shoes come off at the entrance, women cover their hair, clothes should cover shoulders and legs. An area is provided for women. Quiet is expected from the door.
Other mosques in Orléans
Two other Muslim places of worship are located in Orléans: Ibn-Badiss Mosque on rue des Carmes in the city centre, and Annour Mosque on rue Jules Ferry in the La Source district south of the Loire. The AMF Cultural Center in Fleury-les-Aubrais is less than ten minutes away by car, and the mosque of Saint-Jean-de-Braye a quarter of an hour to the east.
