The Muslim Community Association of Montreuil (ACMM) runs its prayer room at 37 bis Rue Gaston Lauriau, in Le Bas-Montreuil, two steps from Croix-de-Chavaux station. It is the main listed Muslim place of worship in the town. The association combines daily prayer with associative work aimed at neighbourhood families and youth.
Getting there
Croix-de-Chavaux station (line 9) is three minutes on foot. Mairie de Montreuil, terminus of line 9, is fifteen minutes away. RER A at Vincennes is fifteen minutes by bus on line 102 or 118. From Paris, line 9 takes around ten minutes from Nation. RATP buses 102, 115, 118, 121, 122 and 322 serve the area. A Vélib' station sits on Place de la Croix-de-Chavaux.
The neighbourhood
Rue Gaston Lauriau runs south from Place de la Croix-de-Chavaux. The fabric is that of a nineteenth-century Paris suburb: small buildings, inner courtyards, converted workshops. Croix-de-Chavaux market, one of the liveliest in eastern Paris, opens Tuesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday mornings. Halal shops, Maghrebi grocers and butchers cluster along Rue de Paris and Avenue de la République.

The place serves its worshippers and the association's activities first. A first visit is easier outside Friday noon and outside Ramadan Tarawih night prayers. Shoes come off before entering, women cover their hair, and clothes should cover shoulders and legs. Quiet is expected as soon as you step inside.
