The ACMF Mosque of Fontenay, run by the Association cultuelle musulmane fontenaysienne, is a Muslim place of worship located near the town centre of Fontenay-sous-Bois. It is one of the two main landmarks for the Muslim community of the town.
A mosque of central Fontenay
The ACMF Mosque welcomes worshippers for the five daily prayers and Friday prayer. It takes on particular importance during the month of Ramadan, with the nightly Tarawih prayers and iftar gatherings, as well as during the celebrations of Eid al-Fitr and Eid al-Adha.
Fontenay and its Muslim community
Fontenay-sous-Bois is a Val-de-Marne commune of around fifty-five thousand inhabitants, immediately east of Paris, between Vincennes and Nogent-sur-Marne. The local Muslim community is diverse, with North African, West African and Turkish roots. The Essalam Mosque, in the Val-de-Fontenay sector, complements the town's religious offer.
Access and transport
Fontenay-sous-Bois station, on RER A, connects the town to Nation in about ten minutes and to Châtelet-Les Halles in a quarter of an hour. Val-de-Fontenay station, on RER A and E, is also reachable in a few minutes. Tramway T1 crosses the town, alongside a dense urban bus network.
Advice for visitors
As in any place of worship, appropriate dress is expected, and shoes must be removed before entering the prayer hall. Friday prayer and major religious holidays attract large crowds; arriving early is recommended.
