The Mariam Mosque is a place of prayer in the Saint-Louis district, in the 15th arrondissement of Marseille. It welcomes local worshippers for the five daily prayers and for the Friday prayer.
Getting there
Saint-Louis lies in the northern districts of the city. Metro line 2 to Bougainville station, then a bus towards Saint-Louis, is the most direct way by public transport. By car, the Saint-Louis exit off the A55 leaves you a few minutes away. Parking on the inner streets is easy to find outside Friday noon.
The neighbourhood
Saint-Louis was shaped by 20th-century working-class migration, mostly from Algeria, Morocco and Tunisia. The urban fabric mixes old workers' houses, faubourg apartment buildings and large housing estates. Local shops, halal butchers and grocers are concentrated in the centre of Saint-Louis and along the roads towards Saint-Antoine and Le Merlan.

The hall serves a local community and the atmosphere is family-oriented. A first visit is easier on a weekday, outside Friday noon and outside Ramadan Tarawih night prayers. Shoes come off before entering the prayer hall, clothing should cover shoulders and legs, and women cover their hair. Quiet is expected as soon as you step inside.
