The Bosquet Mosque is a place of prayer in the 11th arrondissement of Marseille, on the far eastern edge of the city. It serves families in the La Valentine and Saint-Menet districts for the five daily prayers and for the Friday prayer.

Getting there

Le Bosquet lies on the border between Marseille and Aubagne, close to the Garlaban massif. Driving is the most practical option, with direct access via the A50 from the centre in about twenty minutes. By public transport, metro line 1 to La Timone, then a bus towards La Valentine or Saint-Menet, reaches the area, with a longer journey time.

The neighbourhood

The east side of Marseille combines residential housing, apartment blocks and commercial zones. La Valentine concentrates several large shopping centres and a busy economy. The area keeps the feel of a gateway to the Sainte-Baume massif, with open views on the Garlaban. Halal shops and grocers are found in La Valentine and Saint-Menet.

Practical advice for a visit

The hall serves a local community and the atmosphere is family-oriented. A first visit is easier on a weekday, outside Friday noon and outside Ramadan Tarawih night prayers. Shoes come off before entering the prayer hall, clothing should cover shoulders and legs, and women cover their hair. Quiet is expected as soon as you step inside.

Other mosques in Marseille

The east of Marseille and Aubagne have a few accessible prayer venues. The En-Nasr Mosque in the east of the city, the Dar Es-Salam Mosque in Aubagne, the Cedars Mosque in Saint-Just and the major mosques of the north-centre, including the As-Sunna Grand Mosque and the Islâh Mosque, are options depending on the journey.
