Othmane Ibn Affane Mosque

The Othmane Ibn Affane Mosque is a Muslim place of worship in Mantes-la-Jolie, in the northern part of the commune, close to Val-Fourré and Les Garennes. Its name honours Othmane ibn Affane, the third caliph of Islam and companion of the Prophet.

A mosque of northern Mantes

The Othmane Ibn Affane Mosque welcomes worshippers for the five daily prayers and Friday prayer. It takes on particular importance during the month of Ramadan, with the nightly Tarawih prayers and iftar gatherings, as well as during the celebrations of Eid al-Fitr and Eid al-Adha. It complements the neighbourhood offer alongside the Grand Mosque of Mantes-la-Jolie and Les Garennes Mosque, also located in the north of the town.

Mantes-la-Jolie and its Muslim community

Mantes-la-Jolie is a Yvelines sub-prefecture of around forty-four thousand inhabitants, central town of a wider urban area of more than one hundred thousand people. The local Muslim community is long established and diverse, with North African, West African and Turkish roots, and a particularly well organised associative life in the northern part of the town, around Val-Fourré and Les Garennes.

Access and transport

Mantes-la-Jolie station is served by Transilien line J trains from Saint-Lazare and line N from Montparnasse via Versailles. RER line E, extended westward as part of the EOLE project, now reaches Mantes. By car, the A13 links the town to Paris in about an hour outside rush hour. An urban bus network serves the northern part of the town from the station.

Advice for visitors

As in any place of worship, appropriate dress is expected, and shoes must be removed before entering the prayer hall. Friday prayer and major religious holidays attract large crowds; arriving early is recommended.
