Les Garennes Mosque

Les Garennes Mosque is a Muslim place of worship in Mantes-la-Jolie, located at 13 rue Roald Amundsen, in the district of the same name, in the north of the commune. It mainly serves residents of Les Garennes sector, close to Val-Fourré.

A mosque of northern Mantes-la-Jolie

Les Garennes Mosque welcomes worshippers for the five daily prayers and Friday prayer. It takes on particular importance during the month of Ramadan, with the nightly Tarawih prayers and iftar gatherings, as well as during the celebrations of Eid al-Fitr and Eid al-Adha. It is one of the neighbourhood places of worship that complement the offer of the nearby Grand Mosque of Mantes-la-Jolie.

Mantes-la-Jolie and its Muslim community

Mantes-la-Jolie is a Yvelines sub-prefecture of around forty-four thousand inhabitants, the central town of a wider urban area of more than one hundred thousand people. The local Muslim community is large and diverse, with long-established North African, West African and Turkish roots and a particularly well organised associative life in the northern part of the town.

Access and transport

Mantes-la-Jolie station is served by Transilien line J trains from Saint-Lazare and line N from Montparnasse via Versailles, with journeys of forty minutes to one hour. RER line E now also reaches Mantes as part of the westward extension, providing a direct alternative to eastern Paris. By car, the A13 links Mantes to Paris in about an hour outside rush hour. An urban bus network serves the Les Garennes district from the station.

Advice for visitors

As in any place of worship, appropriate dress is expected, and shoes must be removed before entering the prayer hall. Friday prayer and major religious holidays attract large crowds; arriving early is recommended.
