Services and accessibility

  • Wheelchair accessAccessible
  • Men's prayer hall

Mosquée Omar ibn Al Khattab is located in the Bois-Blancs district, west of central Lille. It bears the name of the second caliph of Islam and holds the five daily prayers as well as the Friday prayer. The hall is accessible to people with reduced mobility.

Getting there

The Bois-Blancs district is served by its namesake metro station on line 2, fifteen minutes from Lille Flandres. Several bus lines round out the network. By car, access is via boulevard Robert-Schuman or the N356. The area is also pleasant to cross by bike along the Deûle green way.

The neighbourhood

Bois-Blancs sits on a peninsula between the Deûle river and the Haute-Deûle canal, west of the city centre. The district has been thoroughly renewed around the Rives de la Haute-Deûle project and EuraTechnologies. It keeps a mixed housing fabric, with renewed social housing, recent buildings and detached houses. Halal shops are mainly around rue d'Ostende and in neighbouring Wazemmes.

Practical advice for a visit

The local community is active and the mosque welcomes both nearby residents and workers from the digital hub next door. A first visit is easier outside Friday noon and outside Ramadan Tarawih night prayers. Shoes come off before entering, clothing should cover shoulders and legs, and women cover their hair.

Other mosques in Lille

Neighbouring Wazemmes, fifteen minutes on foot or one metro stop away, concentrates several places of worship. Mosquée Al Imane on rue de Marquillies, Mosquée Es-Salam on rue Jean Jaurès and Mosquée Badr on rue d'Arras are among the main options. The mosques of Lomme and Loos are around ten minutes away by car or public transport.
