Mosquée Es-Salam is located at 94 rue Jean Jaurès in Lille, in the Wazemmes district. It offers the five daily prayers and the Friday prayer. The venue is unisex, with dedicated areas for women and men.
Getting there
Rue Jean Jaurès is a few minutes on foot from Gambetta metro station (line 1) and fifteen minutes from central Lille. Several bus lines serve the area. By car, access is via the inner boulevards and street parking generally remains available during the day. Wazemmes market, five minutes on foot, is one of the district's main landmarks.
The neighbourhood
Wazemmes is one of Lille's liveliest districts, known for its three-weekly market, its cultural diversity and a very dense shopping fabric. Halal shops, butchers, grocers and restaurants can be reached on foot around rue Gambetta and place de la Nouvelle Aventure. The area combines older buildings, renewed courées and small workers' houses.
Practical advice for a visit
The hall is very busy on Friday noon and during Ramadan Tarawih night prayers. A first visit is easier outside those times. Shoes come off before entering the prayer hall and clothing should cover shoulders and legs. Women cover their hair and have a dedicated area.
Other mosques in Lille
Wazemmes and the neighbouring districts gather several mosques within a few minutes' walk, including Mosquée Al Imane on rue de Marquillies, Mosquée Badr on rue d'Arras and Mosquée Assounna on rue Jean du Solier. Mosquée El Moustafa on rue Léonard Danel and Mosquée Fraternité complete the local network.
