The Grand Mosque of Gennevilliers is the main Muslim place of worship in the commune. Located in the Grésillons district, it is an important landmark for the local Muslim community and for many worshippers from the neighbouring districts of the northern Seine loop.
A grand mosque rooted in Les Grésillons
The Grand Mosque of Gennevilliers welcomes worshippers for the five daily prayers and Friday prayer. It plays a particularly important role during the month of Ramadan, when the nightly Tarawih prayers draw large crowds, as well as during the major religious holidays (Eid al-Fitr, Eid al-Adha). Its location in Les Grésillons, a populous district in the south-west of the town, makes it a gathering place for the whole Seine loop.
Gennevilliers and its Muslim community
Gennevilliers is a Hauts-de-Seine commune of around forty-eight thousand inhabitants, shaped by a long working-class history linked to the river port and the factories of the northern Seine loop. The local Muslim community took root through the migration waves drawn by these industries, mainly of North African and West African origin. Access and transport
RER C, with the Gennevilliers and Les Grésillons stations, directly serves the district. Metro line 13 connects Gabriel-Péri and Les Courtilles to Saint-Lazare in about fifteen minutes. Tramway T1, between Asnières and Noisy-le-Sec, completes coverage to the east. A dense bus network reaches districts further away. Street parking is available in the surrounding streets, though it can be saturated during major prayers.

As in any place of worship, appropriate dress is expected, and shoes must be removed before entering the prayer hall. Friday prayer and major religious holidays attract large crowds; arriving early is recommended.
