Mosquée Bilal is the main Muslim place of worship in Sallaumines, in the Lens basin. It welcomes worshippers for the five daily prayers and for the Friday prayer.

Getting there

The mosque is located on rue d'Yvetot, in central Sallaumines. The Tadao bus network serves the town, with regular links to Lens and Hénin-Beaumont. Lens station, a few minutes away by car, provides access to TER Hauts-de-France trains. From the A21 motorway, the Sallaumines exit gives direct access.

The neighbourhood

Sallaumines grew around its mining past and the area still bears the traces of this history, with its miners' cottages and refurbished housing estates. Local shops, markets, halal butchers and grocers are accessible in the centre of Sallaumines and in the nearby centres of Lens and Méricourt. The landscape carries the memory of the mining basin.

Practical advice for a visit

The hall serves a local community and the atmosphere is family-oriented. A first visit is easier outside Friday noon and outside Ramadan Tarawih night prayers. Shoes come off before entering the prayer hall, clothing should cover shoulders and legs, and women cover their hair. Quiet is expected as soon as you step inside.

Other mosques in Sallaumines and nearby

The Lens basin has several other prayer venues a few minutes away. Mosquée Abou Bakr in Lens, Mosquée Errahma in Méricourt, Mosquée Al Fath and Mosquée Badr in Avion, Mosquée En-Nour in Harnes and Mosquée Ennasr in Hénin-Beaumont are among the other accessible options.
