Omar ibn al Khattab Mosque

Omar ibn al Khattab Mosque is located at 24 rue Edmond Rostand, in the Buttes district of Saint-Martin-d'Hères, directly east of Grenoble. It welcomes residents of the commune and neighbouring districts for the five daily prayers and Friday prayer.

Getting there

TAG tram line C serves Saint-Martin-d'Hères with the Mayencin - Champ Roman stop, about ten minutes on foot from the mosque. Line B, at Cité Jean Macé, is a second option. TAG bus lines C4 and 16 complete the grid towards Meylan, Gières and central Grenoble. By car, the southern ring road Saint-Martin-d'Hères exit is nearby, with on-street parking available in the surrounding residential streets.

The neighbourhood

Les Buttes is a residential district in northern Saint-Martin-d'Hères, between the old village core and the border with Grenoble. The area combines older detached-house housing, small apartment blocks and more recent home-ownership schemes. Halal butchers and Middle-Eastern grocers are well represented along avenue Ambroise Croizat and around place Karl Marx. Proximity to the university campus and Jean-Pierre Bard park, a few minutes away, completes the local setting.

Practical advice for a visit

The hall hosts an active community, especially on Friday noon. A first visit runs more smoothly outside the main prayers. Shoes come off at the entrance, women cover their hair, clothes should cover shoulders and legs. An area is provided for women. Quiet is expected from the door.
