Mosquée Eyüp Sultan is located at 90 rue Daubenton in Roubaix. It is run by the town's Turkish community and its name refers to one of the Prophet's companions, also a major figure in Istanbul. The hall holds the five daily prayers and the Friday prayer.
Getting there
Rue Daubenton lies east of central Roubaix, about ten minutes on foot from the Grand-Place and Eurotéléport metro stations (line 2). The Lille-Tourcoing tramway serves central Roubaix, with a bus connection to the neighbourhood. By car, the mosque is reached from the A22 via the Roubaix-centre exit.
The neighbourhood
Rue Daubenton crosses a dense residential area made up mostly of brick townhouses typical of Roubaix. The town centre, with its shops, department stores and Grand-Place, is fifteen minutes away on foot. Halal shops, butchers and grocers are spread across central Roubaix.
Practical advice for a visit
Friday noon and Tarawih night prayers during Ramadan draw larger crowds. Other times of the week are quieter and easier for a first visit. Shoes come off before entering the prayer hall, clothing should cover shoulders and legs, and women cover their hair. Calling +33 3 20 70 67 09 in advance is useful for any specific request.
Other mosques in Roubaix
Roubaix has several mosques within less than a kilometre of each other. Mosquée Bilal on rue de l'Épeule, Mosquée Abou Bakr Essedik on rue Franklin and Mosquée Es-Sunna on rue Saint-Maurice are reachable on foot or in a few minutes by bus. Mosquée Eyüp Sultan Roubaix is a second place of worship for the town's Turkish community.
