The neighbourhood
Southern Bellevue is a large residential area in western Nantes, straddling the boundary with Saint-Herblain. The district combines largely renovated 1960s housing estates, recent home-ownership schemes and older single-family homes. Place Mendès France, a few minutes away, brings together local shops, the Bellevue market and municipal amenities. Halal butchers, Middle-Eastern grocers and Turkish restaurants are well represented in the district and along route de Vannes.
Practical advice for a visit
The hall is attended by a community loyal to the project, with a large share of worshippers of Turkish origin. Friday noon quickly fills the venue, a first visit runs more smoothly on another day. Shoes come off at the entrance, women cover their hair, clothes should cover shoulders and legs. An area is provided for women. Quiet is expected from the door.
