Assalam Mosque

Assalam Mosque is located on boulevard de Seattle, in the Doulon-Bottière district east of Nantes. It is one of the largest prayer halls in the city, with a loyal community organised around a registered association. It opens for the five daily prayers and Friday prayer.

Getting there

Chronobus line C7 serves boulevard de Seattle with a stop a few minutes on foot from the mosque. TAN tram line 1, at the Souillarderie or Bottière stop, offers an alternative from the centre. Bus lines 12 and 42 complete the grid towards Doulon and la Beaujoire. By car, access from the ring road exit 42 is via route de Sainte-Luce then boulevard de Seattle, with on-street parking available in the surrounding residential streets.

The neighbourhood

Doulon-Bottière is a large district in eastern Nantes, marked by extensive 1970s housing schemes now largely rehabilitated and by scattered single-family homes. The district has been the subject of a major urban renewal programme over the past ten years. Place de la Bottière and the Doulon market gather local shops and municipal amenities. Halal butchers and Middle-Eastern grocers are well represented in the district and along route de Sainte-Luce.

Practical advice for a visit

The hall is attended by a large community, particularly at Friday noon when attendance quickly fills the venue. A first visit runs more smoothly on another day, at weekday prayers. Shoes come off at the entrance, women cover their hair, clothes should cover shoulders and legs. An area is provided for women. Quiet is expected from the door.
