Liévin is a town in the Pas-de-Calais coalfield, bordering Lens to the west. With around 30,000 inhabitants, it forms with its neighbour a continuous urban fabric shaped by coal mining and has several Muslim prayer venues for local worshippers.
Where to find a mosque in Liévin
Mosquée Omar is the main Muslim place of worship listed in Liévin. It holds daily prayers and the Friday prayer. A second, smaller prayer venue completes the local offer. Worshippers can also turn to the mosques of Lens, Avion or Sallaumines, all a few minutes away.
Public transport access
Liévin is served by the Tadao bus network, which connects it to Lens, the regional railway station and the neighbouring pit towns. Lens station, less than ten minutes away, reaches Lille in around thirty minutes. The town is also connected to the A21, a major road through the coalfield.
Local context
Liévin is known for the Stade couvert régional, which hosts a stage of the international indoor athletics meeting every year. The town has preserved a notable mining heritage, with several workers' estates listed as UNESCO World Heritage. The town centre concentrates shops, markets and local public services.
