The Grand Mosque El Andalous of Les Ulis, on rue de l'Armagnac, is a landmark Muslim place of worship on the Saclay plateau. It is one of the two main landmarks for the Muslim community of Les Ulis and the neighbouring towns.
A grand mosque of the Saclay plateau
The Grand Mosque El Andalous welcomes worshippers for the five daily prayers and Friday prayer. It takes on particular importance during the month of Ramadan, with the nightly Tarawih prayers and iftar gatherings, as well as during the celebrations of Eid al-Fitr and Eid al-Adha.
Les Ulis and its Muslim community
Les Ulis is an Essonne commune of around twenty-four thousand inhabitants, on the Courtabœuf plateau about twenty kilometres south-west of Paris. The local Muslim community is large and diverse, with North African, West African and Turkish roots. Les Ulis Mosque complements the town's religious offer.
Access and transport
The town does not have an RER station on its territory, but Orsay-Ville station, on RER B, is about three kilometres away and connected by a regular shuttle bus. By car, the A10 and N118 link the town to Paris in about thirty minutes outside rush hour. An urban bus network serves the different districts from the centre.
Advice for visitors
As in any place of worship, appropriate dress is expected, and shoes must be removed before entering the prayer hall. Friday prayer and major religious holidays attract large crowds; arriving early is recommended.
