The El Asr Mosque of Antony is a Muslim place of worship located in the northern part of the town, in a dense residential district. Its name, taken from the 103rd sura of the Quran, refers to the mid-afternoon prayer.
A mosque of northern Antony
The El Asr Mosque welcomes worshippers for the five daily prayers and Friday prayer. It takes on particular importance during the month of Ramadan, with the nightly Tarawih prayers and iftar gatherings, as well as during the celebrations of Eid al-Fitr and Eid al-Adha. It complements the offer alongside the Hal Houda Mosque, also located in the town.
Antony and its Muslim community
Antony is a Hauts-de-Seine commune of around sixty-two thousand inhabitants, about ten kilometres south of Paris, in the Bièvre valley. The local Muslim community is diverse, with North African, West African and Turkish roots. The north of the commune, close to the university campus and Sceaux, is a particularly dense housing sector.
Access and transport
Antony station, on RER B, connects the town to Châtelet-Les Halles in about twenty minutes. Croix-de-Berny station, on the same line, is also nearby. A dense urban bus network serves the different districts. By car, the A86 and N186 link Antony to the Paris ring road.
Advice for visitors
As in any place of worship, appropriate dress is expected, and shoes must be removed before entering the prayer hall. Friday prayer and major religious holidays attract large crowds; arriving early is recommended.
