Getting there
La Ciotat is served by the Marseille to Toulon TER line, with a journey of about thirty minutes from Saint-Charles. The station sits in the hills, about three kilometres from the centre, so a local bus or a taxi is needed to reach the residential north-east districts where the mosque is located. By car, the A50 links Marseille to La Ciotat in about thirty minutes outside the summer season.
The neighbourhood
La Ciotat long lived from its shipyards, which shaped the landscape and drew, from the middle of the 20th century, families from Algeria, Morocco and Tunisia. The closure of the yards in the 1980s marked the town, which has since turned to yachting, large yacht repair and tourism. Halal shops, butchers and grocers are concentrated in the centre and in the inhabited residential districts.
