The Al-Taqwa Mosque (Arabic: مسجد التقوى, meaning "piety") is a Muslim place of worship in Athis-Mons, in the southern part of the commune. It mainly serves residents of the Noyer-Renard district and nearby residential areas.
A neighbourhood mosque
The Al-Taqwa Mosque welcomes worshippers for the five daily prayers and Friday prayer. It takes on particular importance during the month of Ramadan, with the nightly Tarawih prayers and iftar gatherings, as well as during the celebrations of Eid al-Fitr and Eid al-Adha. It can be reached by phone.
Athis-Mons and its Muslim community
Athis-Mons is an Essonne commune of more than thirty thousand inhabitants, located south of Orly. The local Muslim community is long-established and diverse, with North African and West African roots. Al-Taqwa is one of the main places of worship in the town alongside the ABPE Prayer Hall, together serving the southern and central districts.
Access and transport
From Paris, Athis-Mons station is served by RER C, about thirty minutes from Gare d'Austerlitz. The neighbouring Juvisy-sur-Orge station (RER C and RER D) also gives quick access to the town. A bus network completes local coverage, with connections to Orly, Villeneuve-Saint-Georges and Corbeil-Essonnes. Street parking is available in the surrounding streets but can become saturated at peak hours.
Advice for visitors
As in any place of worship, appropriate dress is expected, and shoes must be removed before entering the prayer hall. Friday prayer and major religious holidays attract large crowds; arriving early is recommended.
