The Al Ihsan Mosque of Argenteuil is a Muslim place of worship in the northern part of the town, in a dense pavilion sector. Its name, meaning "benevolence" or "excellence in action" in Arabic, refers to a central notion of Islamic ethics.
A mosque of northern Argenteuil
The Al Ihsan Mosque welcomes worshippers for the five daily prayers and Friday prayer. It takes on particular importance during the month of Ramadan, with the nightly Tarawih prayers and iftar gatherings, as well as during the celebrations of Eid al-Fitr and Eid al-Adha.
Argenteuil and its Muslim community
Argenteuil is the most populated commune in Val-d'Oise, with around one hundred and ten thousand inhabitants, in the northern Seine loop. The local Muslim community is long established and diverse, with North African, West African and Turkish roots rooted in the working-class history of the town. Access and transport
Val d'Argenteuil station, on Transilien line J from Saint-Lazare, serves the north of the town a few minutes' walk away. Argenteuil station, on the same line, is also easily accessible by bus. By car, the A15 links Argenteuil to the Paris ring road via Porte de Clichy in about twenty minutes outside rush hour.
Advice for visitors
As in any place of worship, appropriate dress is expected, and shoes must be removed before entering the prayer hall. Friday prayer and major religious holidays attract large crowds; arriving early is recommended.
