The Meaux Muslim Center is the town's main Muslim place of worship, located east of the town centre. It is a central landmark for the Muslim community of the whole Meaux area.
A Muslim centre of the French Brie
The Meaux Muslim Center welcomes worshippers for the five daily prayers and Friday prayer. It takes on particular importance during the month of Ramadan, when the nightly Tarawih prayers draw large crowds, as well as during the major religious holidays (Eid al-Fitr, Eid al-Adha). It also hosts associative and educational activities for community members.
Meaux and its Muslim community
Meaux is a Seine-et-Marne sub-prefecture of around fifty-five thousand inhabitants, on the banks of the Marne, about forty kilometres east of Paris. The local Muslim community is diverse, with North African, West African and Turkish roots, particularly present in the Beauval and Pierre-Collinet districts.
Access and transport
Meaux station, on Transilien line P from Gare de l'Est, connects the town to Paris in about thirty minutes. An urban bus network serves the different districts of the town from the station. By car, the A4 links Meaux to Paris in about forty minutes outside rush hour.
Advice for visitors
As in any place of worship, appropriate dress is expected, and shoes must be removed before entering the prayer hall. Friday prayer and major religious holidays attract particularly large crowds; arriving early is recommended.
