The Ahl Al Hadith Mosque is located in Lyon's 8th arrondissement, in the La Plaine-Santy neighbourhood, at 2 Passage Comtois. It serves the Muslim community of south-east Lyon, in particular residents of the Mermoz, Laënnec and Monplaisir areas.

A neighbourhood place of worship

The mosque operates on a neighbourhood scale and welcomes worshippers for the five daily prayers as well as Friday prayer. It plays a local role that complements the larger mosques of the metropolitan area, such as the Grande Mosquée de Saint-Priest and the Grande Mosquée de Vaulx-en-Velin, which draw worshippers from across greater Lyon. The mosque maintains an official website where prayer times and community announcements are published.

The La Plaine-Santy neighbourhood

Lyon's 8th arrondissement is one of the most populous in the city, with more than 85,000 inhabitants. It is made up of several sub-neighbourhoods, including Mermoz, Laënnec, Bachut and La Plaine-Santy. The latter is a mainly residential area, marked by social housing estates and local amenities. It has been the focus of urban renewal programmes in recent years, aimed at improving living conditions and strengthening connections with the main thoroughfares of the 8th arrondissement.

Getting there

The Ahl Al Hadith Mosque is accessible by public transport via the bus lines serving the south of the 8th arrondissement, as well as the T4 tramway, whose stops are within walking distance. Route de Vienne and Boulevard Pinel are the main road arteries in the area. Parking in the passage itself is limited, and visitors generally use the adjacent streets.

Advice for visitors

As in any place of worship, appropriate dress is expected, and shoes must be removed before entering the prayer area. Attendance is higher for Friday prayer and major religious holidays such as Eid al-Fitr and Eid al-Adha. Arriving early is recommended on these occasions. For up-to-date prayer times, it is helpful to consult the mosque's official website.
