Address
Rue Baudouin IX, 59650 Villeneuve-d'Ascq

The Islamic Centre of Villeneuve-d'Ascq, also known as Mosquée Tawba, is located on rue Baudouin IX in Villeneuve-d'Ascq. It is one of the largest Muslim buildings in the Métropole Européenne de Lille. It holds the five daily prayers as well as the Friday prayer and plays a major role during Ramadan and the great feasts.

Getting there

The mosque is around ten minutes on foot from Pont-de-Bois metro station (line 1), which reaches central Lille in less than twenty minutes. Several bus lines round out the network. By car, access is straightforward from the N227 and A27, with generous nearby parking. The Lille-Pont-de-Bois regional railway station is useful for commuters from other towns.

The neighbourhood

Rue Baudouin IX is close to the University of Lille and to several major Villeneuve-d'Ascq facilities, including the media library and the large urban parks. The fabric is mixed, from student housing to family residences and recent buildings. Halal shops, bakeries and restaurants are reachable around Place des Acacias.

Practical advice for a visit

The building's large capacity makes reception more flexible than in small halls, but a first visit is easier outside Friday noon and outside Ramadan Tarawih night prayers. Shoes come off before entering the prayer hall, clothing should cover shoulders and legs, and women cover their hair. Calling +33 3 20 19 46 14 in advance is useful for any specific request and the site mosqueedevilleneuvedascq.fr publishes community announcements.

Other mosques in the metropolitan area

Mosquée al-Fateh in Hem is around ten minutes away by car. The mosques of Lille are fifteen minutes away on metro line 1, notably Mosquée Al Imane and Mosquée Badr. Neighbouring Roubaix also offers several options along metro line 2.
