Oullins-Pierre-Bénite is a commune nouvelle located south-west of Lyon, on the right bank of the Rhône. Created in 2024 from the merger of Oullins and Pierre-Bénite, it has approximately 38,000 inhabitants and serves as a southern gateway to the Lyon metropolitan area. The local Muslim community has a place of worship within the commune.

Where to find a mosque in Oullins-Pierre-Bénite

The Association Musulmane de Pierre-Bénite is the main prayer venue in the commune. Located in the former Pierre-Bénite area, it welcomes worshippers for daily prayers and the Friday prayer. For residents wishing to access other mosques, those in Lyon's 7th arrondissement and Saint-Fons are nearby and easily reachable by public transport.

Getting there by public transport

The commune benefits from excellent transport links thanks to metro line B, whose historic terminus was at Oullins (Gare d'Oullins station). The line has been extended to Saint-Genis-Laval, strengthening the connection with the southern part of the agglomeration. The journey from Oullins to Bellecour takes less than 10 minutes by metro. Several bus routes complement the network and serve the various neighbourhoods of the new commune.

Local context

The creation of the commune nouvelle Oullins-Pierre-Bénite in 2024 brought together two towns with distinct identities. Oullins is characterised by its lively town centre with shops and busy streets, while Pierre-Bénite retains a more industrial profile linked to its chemical industry heritage. The merger aims to pool services and facilities for the benefit of all residents.
